Lauren Singer is a prime example of how I hope the world will be one day, including myself. Her work is truly making a difference for the environment.
Lauren is an environmental studies major who lives a zero waste lifestyle in New York. What’s a zero waste lifestyle you ask? It means that she produces 0 garbage and nothing is sent to landfills. Over the past 5 years the amount of trash that she has produced fits in a jar, incredible!
She then went on to become the CEO of 2 companies: Package Free and Simply Co.
Package Free is a store that sells products to reduce waste and alternatives to single use plastics, everything from kitchen items to bathroom items. The store even has a strict packaging policy for deliveries and only works with brands that follow her mission.
“SINCE OPENING WE’VE KEPT AN ESTIMATED 4,025,600 PLASTIC STRAWS, 3,061,240 PLASTIC BAGS AND 1,419,260 NON-RECYCLABLE BOTTLES AND CUPS OUT OF LANDFILL” –Lauren on the success of Package Free.
Her other company, Simple Co. was founded after she noticed that her blog readers loved the idea of toxic free and sustainable cleaning products. The idea was born and she created vegan laundry detergent.
I also love her blog Trash is for Tossers, it provides ideas for small changes that everyone can do to reduce waste. I hope you have learnt something from Lauren today!
